IDENTITY IN CHRIST

By Sunday Kingsley

SAFACS 2023 ENTRY 7

"I don't understand, Emma. I have everything: a great man, a well-paying job, and affluence. But why? Why don't I feel complete? Why am I still lost?" Anita expressed her thoughts sharing what had been troubling her for months.

"I took a two-week vacation to see if I needed rest... but it was still the same. Emma, what's wrong with me?"

Emma reflected on her experience years ago. She had spent years searching for her purpose, meaning in relationships, achievements, and material possessions. Yet, nothing seemed to fill the void within her.

"Anita, trust me I understand you… can I share a story with you?"

"At this point, anything would help as long as it alleviates this empty feeling"

"Some years ago, I was in a similar state. I tried many things to feel better, but NOTHING changed... I mean, nothing changed until I visited my friend Tayo. There was a church close to Tayo's apartment. They had a program that day. I could say the program was for me.

"While I was indoors, I heard everything because the speakers were loud. At first, I wasn't paying attention due to my conversation with Tayo. But then Tayo stepped out, and that's when it happened—the moment my life changed.

The preacher spoke with confidence about a particular man. I wasn't interested in who he preached about, but I could tell the preacher had seen something extraordinary. Captivated by his confidence, I listened attentively.

Eventually, I went to the venue of the program. Heading there, I noticed a banner that read 'Identity in Christ: Out with the Old, In with the New.' Intrigued by the message, I decided to attend the program for a while, intending to leave early since I hadn't informed Tayo. However, I stayed longer than expected because I saw and heard things differently then I decided to give whom the preacher spoke about a chance. Not because I knew him, but because I wanted to try something new."

"After the program, instead of heading home, I inquired about the preacher’s unwavering confidence. He shared his experiences, and I realized my problems were minor compared to what he had been through. Intrigued, I asked how I could meet the man he spoke highly of. I expected a formal meeting in an office, but he said that wasn’t necessary then he introduced me to the man.

Remember when I told you about a coach who introduced me to a man that transformed my life? Well, the coach and preacher is Mr. Michael, and the man he introduced me to is Jesus.

You’re surprised that meeting Mr. Michael, whom I admire, occurred during this encounter. That's how I found Jesus and how my life changed, giving me purpose.”

"Emma, you mean your life changed because you gave Jesus a chance?"

"Yes. Jesus did it all. You thought my job, salary, and family did it all, but now you know my secret."

I’m giving Jesus a chance said, Anita.
